Happy Monday from 93.7 BOB FM! As we move past Thanksgiving, it’s time to check in on the musical history that happened this week (November 24th through 30th). This seven-day span features a groundbreaking music video debut, a legendary band’s unexpected chart-topper, and a massive anniversary for the King of Pop!

November 30, 1982: Thriller Changes Everything

On November 30, 1982, Michael Jackson released his sixth studio album, Thriller. It wasn’t just an album release; it was a cultural phenomenon that fundamentally changed music and pop culture forever.

  • Global Domination: The album became—and remains—one of the best-selling albums of all time globally, launching seven hit singles, including “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” and the title track, “Thriller.”

  • Video Revolution: The iconic short films and music videos that accompanied the album redefined how music was presented, blurring the lines between movies and music videos.

November 28, 1974: The Queen of Rock and Roll

On November 28, 1974, one of rock and roll’s most unlikely collaborations scored a huge hit when Elton John‘s version of The Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” soared to #1 on the US Pop Singles chart.

  • The Feature: John Lennon, who wrote the original Beatles song, played guitar and sang backup vocals on the track under the pseudonym “Dr. Winston O’Boogie.”

  • A Rare Feat: This was a rare occurrence where a cover version of a classic Beatle song reached the top spot on the charts. It gave Elton John one of his many #1 hits that year!
