According to a new survey from Talker Research, the average American celebrating Thanksgiving in 2025 will spend $952 when it’s all said and done – here’s how that breaks down:
- $175 on food
- $110 on drinks
- $83 on decor
- $291 on miscellaneous costs (i.e., fixing an appliance or buying a new outfit)
- $293 on travel
Considering these costs, it’s not surprising that 35% of respondents have cut their Thanksgiving budgets this year, planning to spend 41% less. When asked how they were downsizing their budgets, survey respondents reported they were hosting fewer people (31%), asking guests to bring their own dishes (28%), opting for cheaper brands (28%), and staying home instead of traveling (24%).
Fifty-one percent of Americans are doing the full, traditional holiday get together this year, while 58% are opting to keep it to just the family in the household. Friendsgiving is on the rise too, with 30% of respondents adding their friends into their Thanksgiving festivities this year.
